Student's Pass

 

A Student Pass is issued to all foreign students under strict conditions:

  • It is issued only for study at SHRM for a particular course.
  • Student’s Pass holders are prohibited from working in Singapore (paid or unpaid). The Police and the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) conduct regular checks for foreign students patronising nightclubs, KTV lounges and other places. These places are strictly out-of-bounds to our SHRM student’s pass holders.
  • The Student’s Pass must be renewed every 6 or 12 months. For renewal, please approach the Student Services Department for renewal matters. The Student Care Office holds a record of the expiry date for your pass. However, it is your responsibility to take note of the expiry date of your Student’s Pass and to renew your student’s pass two weeks before the expiry to avoid overstaying in Singapore.
  • If ICA has not renewed the student’s pass, you will have to leave Singapore.
  • No Singaporean or Singapore Permanent Resident can adopt you.
  • You cannot get married to a Singaporean or Singapore Permanent Resident while in Singapore on a Student’s Pass.
  • You cannot get pregnant while on Student’s Pass.
  • that he/she shall not be involved in any criminal offences in Singapore;
  • that he/she shall not remain in Singapore after the expiry of the Student's Pass;
  • that he/she shall surrender the Student's Pass for cancellation within 7 days of the date of cessation or termination of studies;
  • that the student will inform ICA when he/she leaves the Singapore and his/her means and date of departure;
  • that the student shall be responsible for the cost of his/her repatriation and maintenance pending such repatriation, if necessary; 
  • declare that a female student *is/is not pregnant. (To attach a medical certificate indicating the expected date of delivery if applicant is pregnant);

Student Pass holders studying in private institutions are not allowed to work part-time while holding Student Passes in Singapore.
 

If your Student’s Pass has been lost or stolen:

  • Report their loss immediately to the Police and obtain a copy of the Police Report.
  • Give a copy of the Police Report to the SHRM and retain a copy yourself.
  • The SHRM will proceed to inform ICA to obtain a replacement Student’s Pass for you.
  • You are only allowed by ICA to apply for a replacement Student’s Pass once at the cost of S$100
  • If you lose it a second time, you will not be able to get a replacement

The student must abide by the following conditions for the issue of a Student‘s Pass:

  • that he/she shall comply with the provisions of the Immigration Act and any regulations made there under or any statutory modification or re-enactment thereof for the time being in force in Singapore;
  •  that the purpose of stay in Singapore is solely for study only, and no other pass, extension of stay or permanent stay will be sought for in Singapore;
  • that he/she shall seek adoption by any Singapore citizen or permanent resident in Singapore;
  • that he/she shall not indulge in any activities which are inconsistent with the purpose for which the Student's Pass has been issued;
  • he/she shall not engaged in any form of employment paid or unpaid, or in any business, profession or occupation, or in any activity which, in the opinion of the Controller of Immigration, is detrimental to the security, reputation and well-being of Singapore;
  • that he/she shall not smoke, administer to himself/herself or otherwise consume or be in anyway engaged in the trafficking of any controlled drug as defined in the Misuse of Drugs Act, (1985 Edition), or any written law for the time being in force relating to the control of dangerous or otherwise harmful drugs;

 

General Rules & Regulations of ICA

  • Students are to carry their Student Pass with them at ALL  times;
  • Student Pass holders shall not be engaged in any form of employment, business, profession or occupation in Singapore whether paid or unpaid;
  • Should not involved in any criminal or drug offences in Singapore;
  • Enter/be retained in any other institution other than the stipulated institution on your student pass;
  • Students are to surrender Student Pass to SS for cancellation upon course completion, and have no intention of furthering their education with SHRM College or students who have not completed their course, but wished to terminate.  Cancellation of Student Pass has to be completed with 7 days of course completion;
  • New students are not required to bring along original copies of documents submitted to ICA, unless the approval letter states so.  Students are strongly advise students to bring a set of original documents for post veritification subsequently.

Attendance Requirements

  • Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and Informatics Requirements:
    • Attendance is compulsory 5 days x 3-6 hours per day a week;
    • Students who are late for more than 15 minutes will be considered as absent for the day;
    • Students have to maintain a monthly MINIMUM of 90% attendance at all times.

Medical Certificate

  • Only Medical Certificates from local GPs registered with the Ministry of Health will be accepted for absenteeism from class;
  • Medical Certificate from overseas will only be accepted if student provide a notarized or translated copy; 
  • Students are only given up till 1 week where attendance is not calculated and will be marked as absent after the 1 week period.

Notice for Leaving Singapore

  • Students can only leave Singapore when there’s a term holiday.
  • Student Services Officer will request for student to fill in Notice for Leaving Singapore and a copy of return air ticket.
  • Student on compassionate leave will be requested to produce relevant notarized/translated supporting documents, and will be given up to 2 weeks of leave.

Renewal of Student’s Pass 

  • Students who wish to continue with their studies are to put in request for Renewal of Student’s Pass 4 weeks PRIOR to the expiry date stipulated on Student’s Pass or end of course, whichever is earlier;
  • ICA Requirement: Submission of application online via SOLAR+ system.  Student must hold valid Student’s Pass or Social Visit Pass during the renewal process.

Cancellation of Student’s Pass 

  •  Students are to surrender Student’s Pass to Student Services within 7 days of course completion for cancellation;
  • Social Visit Pass will be issued by ICA upon cancellation.
