About the Programme
The non-award and non-credit 6-month preparatory course prepares students for entry into SHRM’s courses. The course is divided into 2 levels of 3-months each.
The SHRM English Placement Test may be taken when our recruitment team visits your home country. Alternatively, you may take the test at one of our approved partner's offices listed on the Contact Us page. Please contact our Admissions Department to arrange for a placement test or alternatively, you may contact one of our approved partners directly. Please take note that if you take the placement test in one of our partner offices and pass the placement test, you will be issued a Conditional Offer Letter. You will be required to take another placement test upon arriving at the school to confirm your English language proficiency. The Preparatory English Language Modules are non-credit and non-award modules.
Applicants who do not meet the SHRM English language requirements will have to undergo the SHRM English Placement Test. Based on the table below, you may be required to take one or two levels Preparatory English Language Programme.

Programme Structure
Each level of the English Programme is for a duration of 10 study weeks with 3 break weeks.
Mode of Delivery
TThe programme is conducted on a face-to-face tutorial basis. The English language classes are capped at a maximum of 15 students per class. Classes are conducted Monday to Friday from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm.
Level 1 covers the fundamentals of English grammar, vocabulary, speaking and writing skills as well as listening and comprehension skills. The aim is to increase overall English proficiency to prepare them for Level 2 and the confidence needed for entering the academic programmes offered by SHRM. Basic to intermediate grammar, readings, language based activities and class trips are essential to this module and will provide the students with enriching experiences and useful course skills.
Level 2 covers the fundamentals of English as introduced and used in the hospitality and tourism industry. Increasing their overall English proficiency and their specific knowledge of industry-specific language will give the students more confidence within the diploma and advanced diploma programs. Grammar, readings, language-based activities and class trips are essential to this module and will provide the students with enriching experiences and useful job skills.
There will be no certificate issued after completion of this course.
Assessments
Students are assessed with a mixture of continuous assessments throughout each term in the form of presentations, and theory tests. Final examinations are conducted at the end of each term.
In the event a student fails a level, the student will be required to repeat the level.

Jane is a graduate of the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Agricultural and Environmental Science and a Master of Science Transport Engineering and Operations.
She also possesses a Master of Art in Applied Linguistics from Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia. |
Rebecca Louise Chilton |
Rebecca is from Middleborough in the United Kingdom, and has extensive teaching experience in English at a variety of learner age groups in the Middle East along with professional experience in hotel and restaurant management and services while being in the UK and the Middle East. She has worked as restaurant manager for 5 star hotels in the Middle East and Europe for over 5 years.
She is a graduate of the University of Salford, United Kingdom with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Hospitality and Tourism Management |
Gilo Abegail Aileen Ciceron |
Abegail has been teaching English and Communication in Singapore for about 4 years. Prior to that she held various positions in the Philippines in the financial sector and also taught at various Institutions of learning.
Abegail holds a Bachelor of Science in Development Communication majoring in community broadcasting from the University of Philippines. She is also currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Mass Communication with Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. |

Susan has more than 18 years training experience in the sectors of retail, tourism and hospitality in areas such as communication, motivation and art of service.
Susan holds a BA in Tourism Management from Glasgow Caledonian University, a Post Graduate Diploma in TESOL from University Technology Sydney and a Masters of Education from Victoria University, Melbourne, Australia. |
